Lovely one-family house on the Tuscan hills

Our home

Ours is a beautiful holiday home that my father's family built in the late '60s on a beautiful spot of Tuscany. The one-story house is surrounded by a large garden with olive (my parents still produce their own olive oil for the close family!) and chestnut trees and bushes of rosemary, lavender and many other plants and flowers. The house has a large dining-sitting room with a working large exposed-brick fireplace and many windows filling the room with light and warmth, especially at sunset. A small EIK with all the necessary appliances (fridge, oven, dishwasher, washing machine) and a door to side garden with al fresco dining area and brick barbecue grill. From the dining area a small staircase (5 steps only) leads to bedrooms and bathrooms and a large pantry. The house features 3 bedrooms (1 single with door to side garden, 1 twin and 1 double with a sofa bed/futon) and 2 full bathrooms (both with bath-tub). Central hot-air heating.

Our neighbourhood

The house is on a hilltop in the heart of the area known as 'Svizzera Pesciatina' (Pesciatin Switzerland). The location is designed for relaxing and refreshing holiday breaks in the midst of Nature. Own transport is essential. The surroundings are comfortable and in harmony with the ambience of the .

region. The house is situated on the hills just outside Pescia and 1 km from the village of Vellano, the capital of the 'Svizzera Pesciatina'. Vellano is located in a scenic position facing the valley of the Pescia river where you can find bakery, butcher, general store, bar and restaurant. Amenities close by: seaside one hour away, 18-hole-golf course in Montecatini (14km), Abetone ski resort (60km), plus, nearer home, trekking walks, numerous historic villas and gardens (Pescia is home to the second largest flower market in Europe and to Pinocchio, the well known character by Carlo Collodi), colourful street markets .. and many excellent and inexpensive restaurants. Distances: 10 mins to nearest market town, Pescia, with railway and bus stations, hospital, banks, supermarkets. 40 mins to Lucca - a walled medieval gem - and Florence. One hour by car to Pisa. One hour driving to Viareggio seaside resort; one and a half hours to marble/sculpture centre Carrara/Pietrasanta; two hours driving to Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra.
