We are looking ahead to when we retire next year and would like to do some longer term exchanges (i.e. a minimum of a month, preferably three to six months). In oder to narrow our search we have used the 'advanced search' facility for the clubs we belong to but we are finding that there seem to be very mixed views on what home exchangers consider to be 'long term'. As a consequence our results include a large number of exchangers who are actually looking for an exchange duration of just 2-3 weeks. We would consider this to be a normal summer vacation and not a long term swap. Is there any bench mark as to what constitutes a 'long term exchange'.

Best way to get a long term swap is to put those words right in your listing headline. Then create an "availability" in that section of your listing reflecting the long-term period when your home is available.

I think its pretty difficult to have a long term exchanges unless it is a secondary home.

I live near Barcelona and try to find a 2-4 months home exchange during the fall school term and I see this website is not very helpful for this kind of search. I cannot understand why can't we give our home reference in the forum, in case another family is interested in swapping with us, as you have tihs specific forum for long term exchanges. I see I'm not the only one that has this feeling and hope the administrators change their mind :-)

I, too, would prefer longer term swaps and struggle with finding listings who indicate that. It seems that so many of them are week or even weekend swaps. I think that's great, it just isn't what we're looking for. If the administrator is reading, is there a way to indicate month+ swaps so that we can seach on that variable? Thanks!!!

I, too, am looking for long term exchanges but to a specific area. I wish there was a way to do a post - I might actually try to post something now saying where I am and where I would like to go and see if that works.
