Do I have to only ask to trade with people whose home is about the same size or value as my home?

You're not exchanging home-for-home. You're exchanging place-for-place. You can't put a dollar value on that. We have exchanged for very small, simple apartments and for a mansion with a horse paddock and tennis courts.
