We want to visit Manhattan but we need a big place so grandma and grandpa can join us. We want to stay in a house, not an apartment, so we need to look outside Manhattan. What are good areas to try to find a swap home in Brooklyn? New Jersey? Queens? Thanks for any ideas!

You may want to warn RoofSwappers about a new scammer offering a swap for a great looking Manhattan apartment (4 bedrooms, 4 baths – or 3 baths, depending on which listing you see). He wants a $2500 deposit sent to a P.O. Box address “up front” which will be returned upon the completion of the swap. His listing is up on several free sights and on Craigslist. At KnowYourTrade we always warn readers about using Craigslist. We tell everyone to only swap with a legitimate agency like RoofSwap.

I used to live in New York. For houses your best bet is probably New Jersey. Use the Google map to see which areas are near Manhattan. There is a train that goes into Manhattan called the PATH. It is like taking the subway from Queens or Brooklyn except that it is in New Jersey.

Hey Nicole! I live in Manhattan and yes, finding a house is hard. I would look in Brooklyn (Park Slope, Cobble Hill), anywhere in Jersey, and in Queens you could possibly try Forest Hills or Douglston. Good luck!
