RoofSwap Forum - How really secure is Home Exchanging?

The concept of home exchanging sounds really great to me. It will save us a lot of money in this difficult economy and sounds like a great advanture. Yet, i am concerened about leaving my house with another unknown family. Does anyone knows how secure is home exchanging?

Pretty difficult thing to quantify. We are pretty experienced exchangers and have had no losses due to theft. There has been instance of damage, and we're pretty sure the exchange family wasn't aware it had happened. In the context of the cost avoidance we realized on that two month trip, the $800 damage was a drop in the bucket. And bear in mind that was one item among several exchanges.
